LGBT History Month
As part of LGBT History month, there are many events being held by the LGBT+ Association and the society, ranging from quizzes to film screenings on LGBT history. However, there are also many other events going on in Cardiff this month to celebrate our history. Lots of these events are free and there is a real variety!
anti-bullying
As part of Refreshers Week 2012, the LGBT+ Association had a stall in the Students’ Union on Tuesday January 31th for Refresh your Health and Wellbeing day. The stall was themed around anti-bullying as this is a topic that the campaigns committee feel strongly about. We believe that bullying is still a problem at University and that this is often neglected as students don’t see offensive comments or online bullying as a problem. However, using some healthy vegan beetroot cake to entice people in, we talked to lots of students about these issues, then asked them to sign our poster saying they were against bullying at Cardiff University. After several hours of giving out lots of leaflets, cake and collecting a few hundred signatures, we felt that a successful day was had! Thanks to everyone who signed our poster, and who has maybe given the idea of bullying at University a little more thought.

Welcome back to Cardiff University LGBT+ Society 2012!
It’s a new year and that means we’ve been beavering away coming up with all kinds of fantastic events, activities and socials for you to enjoy. So whether you’ve been with us for a while, or have just joined up, there’s something for everyone and this is going to be the best year ever for your LGBT+ society!
Coming Up:
Mon 6th Feb: 8PM - Quiz! @ Bar Icon, Charles St (Meet 7:30pm outside Next on Queen Street)
Bringing in LGBT History Month with a bang (or should that be a round?), come get your quiz on with our fun monthly quiz night. £1 entry: cash prize for winning team! Come with friends or alone and we’ll organise teams on the night.
Wed 8th Feb: 8PM – Games Night @ 4th floor, Cardiff University Students Union (meet: 8PM on Union steps at front of Union)
Remember when you were young and spent all evening playing board games? Relive those days at our first games night of 2012! We’ll be providing some games, but bring along anything you want play. Nibbles provided, bring more if your feeling generous. And the best bit of this social? It’s absolutely FREEEE!
Sat 11th Feb: 11AM – Coffee @ Vulcan Lounge, Wyeverne Rd, Cathays
Our weekly coffee morning. Come for a cuppa, late breakfast or lunch (brunch, even!) Relaxed atmosphere, nice people, nice chat. Perfect start to a Saturday.
Sat 11th Feb: Fiddle for the Roof [ceilidh, –traditional folk dancing], Spiros (meet 7:45pm outside the Woodville)
Something a bit different for your Saturday night! Come and dance the night away in aid of charity. St Martin's Church on Albany Road had lead stolen from its roof. What better way to help out than dance like a lunatic? Playing, and leading the dancing, will be Uisge Contraband, a South Wales-based ceilidh band who are rapidly increasing in popularity. Established in 2008 as a four-piece consisting of whistles, fiddle, piano, bass and drums (not to mention a variety of percussion), complete with caller, they’ve developed a loyal and ever-growing fan base who are keen to share in the band’s exuberant, fun-filled performances. Admission: £5 / £4 with concession.
